This work was made in collaboration with Polytechnical Museum in Moscow.
In the museum context, memory intertwines with knowledge, bridging the real and the symbolic. Objects that enter the museum are assigned specific roles and functions, interpreted to construct their integrity, and given a name. Through this process of naming and recognition, attitudes are revealed not only toward individual objects but also toward the surrounding world. In this way, we shape our personal and collective identity.
The objects I selected from the museum’s collection have lost their function in the present. They originate from sources that no longer hold memories or await a new purpose. Stripped of their original vitality and functionality upon entering the museum, these objects have yet to acquire a new status. As a result, they exist in a kind of limbo, often transitioning from one categorization to another over time.
I explore the uncertainty surrounding the object’s status and the difficulty of establishing a connection with the past. Lost memory, as a core element of tradition, generates a crisis of self-identification, leading either to disintegration or to a rethinking of values and meanings.
